Orna Ross - Áine McCarthy

Orna Ross (Áine McCarthy) was brought up in Murrintown, Co. Wexford and part of her novel, Lovers' Hollow, is set in the fictional Wexford village of Mucknamore. Other settings include Dublin, London and San Francisco and the book also ranges over time, from the 1920s to the 1990s and considers the impact of the Irish Civil War - and other kinds of freedom struggles - on Wexford and Irish society..

Amongst other things, Áine has worked as a teacher, a saleswoman, an aerobics instructor, a waitress and as a freelance journalist in Dublin and London. In the late-1990s, while living in Cheshire, she began to write fiction. She combines her new career as a novelist with teaching creative writing and creativity courses through her company Font International www.fontwriters.com and at the Women's Studies Centre at University College Dublin.
