We are after going on the school tour and it was brilliant. by Bernadette On the 17th of May 2003 a set made up of seven people from 6th class and one from 5th entered the U-14 set dancing competition in the Fleadh gChoil from Modeligo Irish Dancing Club. Our set-dancing team was made of Brian, Elaine, Eddie and Bernadette, James and Marie, Lucy and James. On the night they came 1st and now they are off to Skibbereen for the Munster final on the 19th of July. So wish them the best of luck! About 3 years ago we applied for the green flag. Mr. Culloo went to a meeting in the Park Hotel. We had to set up a green school Commitee, a litter patrol and we had to clean up the school grounds. For the clean up we wore our old clothes and we brought shovels, trowels, sweeping brushes, spades, rakes and other types of gardening tools. We spent most of the day gardening with a very hot sun shining on us. We were also split into teams and some of the parents came to help too. The parents also brought some of their own tools. At the end of the day we had the school grounds looking very nice. Stephen, Bernadette, Mrs. Fennell and Mrs. Barry went to a meeting up in Dublin to recieve the green flag. We had to put up a flag pole and a lamp post for the 16th of May. That was the date when John Tracey came to raise the flag. Before the 16th of May we had a mini Day of Action. It wasn't as big or as hard as the first one. Then came the 16th of May. It was a very dull, wet day. There was a slide show in Mr.Culloo's class and tea and cakes were served to the parents. When John Tracey came we all formed a line outside, including the parents. Just when were clapping, it started raining, but that didn't stop us. John Tracey raised the flag and gave a speech and we applauded him. After that we ran inside. The green flag is still flying high. Here's another account... May 16th May the 16th was the day that we put up our green flag. It was a wonderful celebration for the school and for the community. John Tracy from Villierstown who won a silver medal in the Olympics came to the school to raise the green flag. In the morning we got the place ready for the parents. We put out tables and put cakes and biscuits on them.We got our slide show ready that the 5th and 6th class made with the help of the teachers. The slide show was about achieving the green flag. All the parents were here at 12:00 and when the clock struck 12:30 John Tracy arrived and we were all set to raise the green flag. When everybody was outside the teachers and John Tracy made a few announcments and John Tracy raised the green flag. After that the parents and children went in and had a cup of tea, biscuits, crisps and orange. The day was a great success. Raising money for Special Olympics and Chernobyl A couple of weeks ago the school raised money for the special Olympics and Chernobyl. Chernobyl were selling knitted chickens with eggs in them for Easter. We also collected money for special Olympics. We collected four hundred euro for special Olympics and two hundred and eighty euro for Chernobyl. A few of the athletes from Carriglea and their trainer Tom Scanlon came to the school and told us about the Special Olympics. Then we presented them with the cheque for four hundred euro. Hannah was one of the athletes and she will be playing table tennis in the special Olympics.
On the 3rd of April of this year every class each put on a play. The plays were as follows: Spring, The Clown Couldn't Smile, The Wizard of Oz and Cinderella. The night began with a dance routine preformed by the 5th and 6th classes. The night was a big success. At the end all the classes got together on stage and sang a song from S Club. When we had finished we took one final bow and walked off stage. We could still hear the audience clapping down in the dressing rooms. I think everyone had a great time, audience and pupils alike. I WISH I COULD FLY THAT WOULD BE COOL TO ZOOM IN THE AIR LIKE A BIRD BUT THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN BECAUSE ONCE I TRIED AND FELL ON A TREE OUCH! BY
LAUREN My name is Kealan. I typed this poem by Noel Petty... The trouble with spaghetti is It gets you in a fearful tizz, For when you turn it round and round Until you think you’ve got it wound, No matter how you twizzie it One day l’ll follow all the bends Until I’ve found a pair of ends. On the 14th of May on that very day, ‘The Murray Grey’ left Dungarvan bay. It sailed away from night till day, Till it got so very far away. Through the rocky ocean, Across the Atlantic sea, It swam so gentle and free. by Stephen by Heather
Alissa typed out this poem which was written by ______________ I had a little Brother and His name was TimI put him in the tub to teach him how to swim He drank up all the water and he ate up all the soap In came the doctor, in came the nurse In came the lady with the aligator purse Dead said the doctor, Dead said the Nurse Dead said the Lady with the Aligator purse Out went the Doctor, Out went the Nurse Out went the lady With the aligator purse.
At the start of the year we started our School Football. We had to play seven games. The teams we had to play were Medeligo, Ardmore, Knockanore and a couple of more. We played Medeligo first. We had a good team out but Medeligo had a good team too. At the end of a good match we drew. After a couple of weeks we got in to the final. It was on a Saturday we had to play Ardemore. At the end of the first half we were drawing but when the second half we played better and went on to win the game. We went up to get our medals and the Micheal Culloo Cup. In this game David was our captain for an exciting game. The first communion for 2003 took place on Saturday the 10th of May in St. James’s Church in Ballinameela. There had been weeks of preparation for the big day. The following children received the sacrament of Holy Communion, Luke, Kevin, Stephen, Kelean, Conor, Matthew, Jason, Elaine, Regina, Laura, Lauren, Heather, Mary, Sinéad and Allisa. Fr. Pat Butler celebrated a nice mass. The servers were John, Shane, and Conor and Lisa. The mass was about 45 minutes long. Some of the pupils from 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th sang in the Choir. As the children of 2nd class went up to receive first Holy Communion some of them were getting very nervous.
