Electrics

There's nothing wrong with the electrics on my FJ. That is to say, I've never had any problems, other than the tail/brake light bulbs blowing quite often. Oh, and it's true about the horn - it's crap. It'd be better suited on a kids electric motorbike in a fairground. I'd imagine most FJ owners (before they replace the original horn) rely on roaring abuse at bad drivers, rather than embarrass themselves with that feeble "nnyyeerrr". I know I did. But sometimes I'd forget and in fury I'd use it, putting all my hate and the curses of Satan through that little red button, pressing it so hard it might break my thumb. But then I'd hear that sound, and lose my rage, and I'd end up with a feeling like there was a room full of sexy girls laughing at me in the nude.
So anyway, other than actual repairs, there are some things I'll replace or modify to improve or enhance either aesthetics or performance.

  • Strip & clean handlebar switchgear.
  • Rubber mounts for tail light bulbs to (hopefully) eliminate them blowing.
  • 100/80 watt Philips Blue Vision halogen headlight bulb.
  • Inspect and make good entire wiring loom.
  • Nikko 105dB blue hi/lo horns.
    • - I don't like the look of those big Fiamm bugles.
  • Dynatek 2.2ohm dual output Dynacoils.
    • - Just for that extra little bit of oomph. With new U-groove sparkplugs, new HT leads, Dynacoils, a carb overhaul, and new throttle cables, response should be crisp, to say the least. Not sure I want to fit a Dynojet kit - any comments?
  • Taylor blue HT leads.
  • Black short-stem rear mini indicators, mounted into sides of tail light lens.
    • - I'll be using soft pannier bags, and the original rear indicators would be obscured.
  • New Yuasa battery.
  • New rear brake light switch.
  • New sidestand cut-out switch.
