The Cork Adult
Education Council, is a voluntary body, founded in 1972 representing
organisations statutory and voluntary involved in the provision of lifelong
learning.
Objectives

To help promote
and co-ordinate the work of the various voluntary and statutory bodies
involved in adult education.

To act as a
reference centre for those seeking information concerning adult education.

To help assess
the educational needs of adults in the Cork region, and to bring these to
the attention of the various voluntary and statutory bodies involved.
Membership
Membership of the
Council is open to any society, group or organisation, (voluntary or
statutory) involved in the provision of adult education. Forty such
organisations are now affiliated including The City Of Cork VEC Adult

Lunch-time
lecture series
The Council
organises lectures and seminars. The annual lunchtime lecture series takes
place in the Spring of each year in The Crawford Art Gallery, Emmet Place,
Cork. These lectures are of interest to both adult educators and the general
public. They are advertised well in advance in the local press and other
media.
Retired
Peoples Network
Seeks to improve
the quality of life for retired people. It encourages a positive attitude to
retirement and engages in many activities including classes and courses in
conjunction with the City of Cork VEC.

AONTAS
is a voluntary organisation and registered charity. It was established in
1969 and receives core funding from the Department of Education and
Science. It is an umbrella organisation whose members include providers of
courses, organisers, learners and anyone interested or involved in adult
education.
AONTAS aims at
Promoting the
importance of adult learning and education throughout life, particularly for
those who are educationally or economically disadvantaged.
Developing a
better system of adult education.
Supporting all
those working at national, regional and local level.
Membership
Applications are
invited from all those interested in adult education whether as individuals,
organisations or groups.
