Cork City Library makes an important contribution to Adult education through its branches and mobile service. The Library Staff and Adult Educators have a shared aim in helping people to develop their abilities, interests and skills. bulletReference Library has 26,000 books with readily accessible information on a wide variety of subjects for those engaged in study and research.
bulletMusic Library has an extensive stock of compact disc, records, cassette tapes, music scores, a wide ranging book stock and video on all aspects of music. Listening facilities are provided.
bulletLocal History Library contains books, journals, maps and photographs covering every aspect of life in Cork past and present. The collection is a valuable community resource.
bulletNewspaper Archives Section comprises both microfilm and bound volumes.

The Library Service

bulletProvides for the visually impaired, a substantial collection of talking books and fiction, and non-fiction material.Many of the tape titles are in Braille.
bulletActs as a referral and publicity centre for Literacy. For adults with reading problems,each branch has a stock of easily identified material.

The City of Cork VEC/Adult Education Board, have a very positive interactive relationship with the Library Authority. The Library is represented on the Adult Education Board. The Board and the Library have initiated a morning basic English class for those whose preference it is to attend a city centre class.

Course Title:

Basic English

Target Group: For those interested in improving their ability in the English Language including their reading a writing skills.
Content: The course will involve reading, writing, application forms, fiction, poetry, drama, and media studies.
Duration: 2 hour sessions for 25 weeks.
Venue: The Central Library, Grand Parade, Cork City.
Certification: Certification will be discussed during the year and may include Junior Certificate Foundation English and/or NCVA.
