Gael-Linn Cup returns to Ballymac

Heartiest congratulations to Sharon Twomey and Colin McSwiney who brought the Gael -Linn Cup back to Ballymacelligott after a two-year break. History was made on Saturday when the two players won the Gael -Linn Tournament, as Shane Twomey and Sandy McSwiney were the last winners from the Club two years ago.
The competition this year consisted of two teams from each Province. The Ballymac players defeated Tyrone in the semi-final 113/61 having beaten Williamstown, Co. Galway in the playoff. The final with Garyhill, Co. Carlow was an exceptionally close and tense game. The two teams were even after the two singles game and it was ace for ace in the final doubles game. The final score was 38/37 and there were some marvellous rallies in the final. It was a pity that there had to be a loser and the Ballymacelligott players were delighted with the win. Both sets of players fought fought hard for every ace. The first person to bring the Gael-Linn Cup to Ballymacelligott was Tom 'Roundy McEllistrim and it is great to see it returning again to the Club. Congratulations Sharon and Colin.
