Thank you for your letter , but the pill had turned the trick all right, and I'm Mothers little Ray of Sunshine again now.

You do jump at conclusions , little mother , don`t you. There's a big difference between the O.C. Divisional Signal Section with only 4800 men to look after. And even the last is a bigger job than the regimental Signal Officer, responsible only for communication inside his own battalion of 1200 men.

So far we haven't had any manoeuvers since my new appointment, so it's been a sinecure as yet.

Finn lay very quiet for a week or so. Then he sat up and took notice of the other camp dogs. As a consequence he is now convalescent, with gaping wounds in his throat, back and shoulders. I got zinc ointment from the doctor and washed him and dressed him (not the doctor; Finn), and he's getting on very nicely now, thank you. I think he enjoyed it all immensely,though. He nearly killed one mangy old bitch; fortunately it seemed that no one owed her. He also got run over by a motor car ; no harm done, though.
