A reversible reaction is a reaction that can go in both directions, that is, forward and backward.
WHAT?!
Right... take the example of the reaction between carbon (C) and water (H2O), which forms carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen gas (H2):
C + H2O CO + H2
But this can also go the other way. Carbon monoxide (CO) reacts with hydrogen (H2) to form carbon (C) and water (H2O):
CO + H2 C + H2O
So we can write these equations as one:
C + H2O CO + H2
The " " symbol represents that the reaction is reversible.
