A Special Message to the New Residents of Lucan
On
this web site, I have listed some of the established issues I have
highlighted during the past number of years. Thank you for the support
I have received in endeavouring to resolve many of these matters.
If you are a new Resident to the area I think it appropriate that
I explain to you who I am and that I should also include details
of matters that are important to me:
Full-Time Councillor
In addition to my role as your Full-Time
Local Independent Councillor, I set out below some personal details
including other Local Community Work which I have undertaken.
I live locally and I am married to Anne.
We have two children, Niamh and Sinéad.
For eight years I worked as Supervisor of
a Local Community Employment Scheme, before being made redundant
last year owing to government policy in the cutting back of funding
for FÁS Community Employment Schemes, including our own local
project in Lucan. I now give of my time fully to my position as
Lucans Independent Community Councillor.
Involved in the heart of the community
I have been Peace Commissioner since 1998
and I have also worked for many years with a number of local, voluntary,
social, sporting and organisations, some of which work with disadvantaged
people, a sample of which I have listed as follows:
Lucan Disability Action Group
working to provide a range of services for disabled people
in the Lucan area I am a Board Member.
Liffey Sound FM helped
successfully pursue the licence for the new Community Radio for
Lucan I am Chairman of the Public Relations Committee.
Chernobyl Children Appeal
(Irl) Lucan Group to provide holiday opportunities
for children from the Chernobyl Region and also International Humanitarian
Aid to the people of Belarus
I am the founder of the Lucan Group and the Co-ordinator of this
programme.
Special Olympics 2003
I was Public Relations Officer on the Lucan Host Town Committee
for this historic event.
Other Representative Positions
I have in the past served our community through my involvement as:
Chairperson of a Local Soccer Club, Vice-Chairperson of Lucan Community
Council, Member of Lucan Planning Council, Board Member of Lucan
2000 Community Group, Chairperson of my Local Residents Association,
Member of Lucan Tidy Towns Committee, and Chairperson of the Lucan
Library Campaign.
Representing your needs
Over the coming weeks I look forward to
the continuing Local Elections Campaign. I will at the same time
be endeavouring to maintain my work-rate in tackling the many local
issues that I am pursuing in the interest of a better quality of
life for Lucan Residents. I will continue this work with consistent
and vigorous efforts in representing your needs and the interests
of our community on South Dublin County Council. On Election Day,
11th June 2004, I will be depending on your support to allow me
to continue with this work for the next five years. You can give
me that support by assisting me in my Election Campaign if you can,
and by giving me your No. 1 Vote on Election Day. If you favour
a Political Party Candidate, I would appreciate your next possible
preference.
Thank you for taking the time to read and
consider this message. You may wish to keep this document as it
may contain some relevant issues you may like to refer to during
the election campaign.
