AIMS:
The aims of Glenageary Killiney National School Parents’ Association
(“GKNSPA”) are the organisation of extra-curricular activities,
fun and sports events for the children together with social events for
the parents.
THE COMMITTEE:
• The Committee of GKNSPA consists of not less than 15 members
drawn solely from the parent body of the school, preferably with representatives
from each class.
• Committee members serve a 3-year term.
• New members are always welcome and can volunteer themselves
or are invited by a serving Committee member.
• The AGM of the GKNSPA takes place at the start of each school
year.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:
Currently there are 9 extra-curricular activities: – Drama, Swimming,
Basketball, Gymnastics, Yoga, Football (Girls & Boys), Hockey, Cricket
and Spanish (New for Autumn 2006). GKNSPA engage qualified coaches and
teachers for each of the activities.
Eligibility: Parents are requested to take out the mandatory insurance
for each child at the beginning of the school year. This form accompanies
the Activity Registration Packs in September. Children from 1st class
upwards are eligible to take part in the activities. Spanish and basketball
are only available to the older classes i.e. 3rd to 6th classes. Senior
Infants may take part in gymnastics and yoga. Supervision rotas are
standard for all activities and parents are obliged to make themselves
available for duty.
The venues for the activities include the
school for: Girls Football, Gymnastics, Yoga, Drama and Spanish; Newpark
Sports Centre for Swimming; Castlepark School for Hockey, Silchester
Park for Boys Football, Cluny Sports Hall for Basketball and Schools
Grounds for Cricket.
In addition to the regular weekly classes
for each activity, other related events take place: Football, hockey
and basketball matches, a drama evening and swimming gala. GKNSPA are
always grateful for parents to help out at these matches/events.
OTHER SOCIAL & SPORTING
EVENTS:
A fun Bingo night is held in the Autumn Term for the more senior children
in the school and the Sports Day in the Summer Term, which is a very
enjoyable family day open to all children in the school.
GKNSPA hold one fundraising event in the school year, usually in the
Spring Term. Over the years they have held Race Nights, a Dream Auction,
a 70’s Night, a Hoedown and a Eurovision Disco. These evenings
have proved to be great fun and a great way to socialise with other
parents and friends. Considerable funds have been raised for the school
over the years.
