The Lighting Grid |
||
Studios must provide a system for the suspension/hanging of lighting lamps and other items of studio hardware. Some studios provide a fixed horizontal grid or lattice of scaffolding bars suspended below the ceiling this enables lamps to be clamped and suspended on or from the bars. To position lamps on a fixed grid the must be man-handled up a ladder or pulled up with the aid of a rope.
Modern studios have a suspended grid of open mesh parallel ceiling/lighting tracks, this form of grid provides a working space high above the studio floor which allows for the suspension of moveable adjustable lighting telescopes. The parallel tracks are positioned in rows the width of the studio each row is identified alphabetically. There is a transverse gap between the rows every five meters or so, this gap between each row forms a transfer track allowing for the side to side positioning of lighting telescopes.
The open mesh also allows for the accurate spotting of flying lines and hanging microphones through the gaps in the grid. Audience/studio monitors, sound speakers, projectors and motorised hoists are also hung from or fixed to the grid. Occasionally the Cyclorama and Blacks tracks are also suspended from the Grid. |
