In order to find a position on a studio floor as indicated on a studio floor plan a simple coordinate system is used. One corner of the studio is designated as the Zero corner and out from this point measurements are marked along the studio walls all the way along to the next corner

The same measurements are indicated on the studio plan which is drawn to a known architectural scale. This gives us a horizontal and vertical coordinate system like latitude and longitude or X and Y coordinates, which allows the position of any object drawn anywhere on the Studio Plan to be found and marked on the studio floor.

This allows the Staging Crew to position the scenery (the set) on the studio floor in exactly the same position as drawn by the Designer on the studio plan. The Electrical Riggers can also position the lamps on the grid in the exact positions as drawn by the Lighting Director on his or her copy of the studio floor plan.
