HUDDERSFIELD & DISTRICT HISTORY

HUDDERSFIELD COLLEGE PRIZE MEDALS.
THE CLASSICAL SILVER MEDALS.

These medals date from 1842 when WRC Stansfield, MP, gave "silver medals to the value of £4 for the promotion of classical literature." In the list of 1854 the donar is given as Viscount Goderich, MP, later Earl of Ripon, by which name he is listed in 1859. From 1860 the medals are recorded as the gift of Earl de Grey and Ripon. By 1869 the medals, to the value of £3 and £2, were being donated by E A Latham, MP.
