Under the umbrella of a Challenge to Change our Sixth class girls explored ways in which we can make simple changes in our day-to-day living that will have real positive effects on the lives of others. This project entitled'Live Simply that Others may Simply Live' encompassed trips to local Farmers markets where we received a wonderful, warm reception and sampled some of the delicious wares available. It also exposed the girls to some good trading policies; the friendly unrushed atmosphere, low overheads, organic produce, simple, lowcost packaging and fair trade. We also visited Traas Apple farm, a local producer of organic apples and apple products. Joe Kenny shared a first hand account and wonderful footage of recent local and national volunteer efforts in Malawi. Fintan Rice, a local organic farmer assisted us in setting up our own Courtyard Garden in school where we grew peas, chives, radishes, lettuces, scallions and some flowers. This venture was much enjoyed by our students. We presented our project in Kilkenny together with other Presentation Schools. Our sixth class girls really enjoyed this day and also learned a lot from the other displays.
