In 1988 an old disused mill adjacent to the Augustinian Abbey in Fethard was restored in an innovative community project and it was reborn as the Abymill Theatre. We in Nano Nagle N.S. have been fortunate in that we have been able to stage our school plays and concerts in the Abymill Theatre. We were delighted to participate in the Variety Concert which marked the opening of the Abymill Theatre in May 1988.
We regard the school plays and concerts as adding a very important dimension to the education of our pupils. It allows scope for the children's imagination and dramatic creativity; it ensures the participation of each and every pupil; it affords an outlet for their diverse talents i.e. acting, singing, dancing, gymnastics, percussion, mime etc. Of course we also have lots and lots of fun!
We availed of the opportunity to work with fantastic local artist Pat Looby in preparing the above pictured Art work for the Junction Festival which takes place in Clonmel annually in the month of July. This Arts festival features a busy schedule of Drama, Song and Dance. Further details can be found at www.junctionfestival.com.
Nano Nagle N.S. has also benefited from the Artist in Residence Scheme where children had opportunities to work with local Artists Doirin Saurus and Pat Looby. Ronnie Fitzgerald from Clonmel Arts centre worked with our fifth and sixth classes in preparing a comic book. Some of our childrens Artwork is featured below.
We were treated to the musical expertise of the McCormack family at the end of the 2006/2007 school year. Children had the opportunity to experiment with a wide variety of musical instruments and took part in an interactive, funfilled presentation.
