NATIONAL SPORTS COMPETITIONS RULES
The
following are the rules of the National Sports Competitions, run under the supervision
of the National Youth Committee (NYC) of the Pioneer Total Abstinence
Association. ORGANISATION OF THE SPORTS COMPETITIONS
The
All-Ireland Sports Final will be organised by the Provincial
Committees
in association with The National Youth Committee.
Provincial,
Diocesan and Regional Finals are the responsibility of the
local
Provincial, Diocesan and Regional Councils respectively.
The
National youth committee will set a provincial entry fee annually.
The top two
teams in each competition at diocesan level will proceed to
the
provincial final. Only winning teams
in provincial finals will
proceed
to the All-Ireland Final.
GENERAL
RULES FOR ALL COMPETITORS
1. All
Competitors must be members of the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association in the
region or centre they represent.
2. Teams
can represent either a centre or a region (This is to facilitate centres who
may find it difficult to field teams)
3. In
all competitions at all levels the referees' decision is final. 4.Proof of age
must be submitted to the organisers if requested.
5.The
National Youth Committee has the final decision in all matters relating to the
Sports Competitions. 6.Competitors may take part in two sports only.
7.
Players must not wear kits with alcohol advertising during play.
8.
Pioneer Pins should be worn at presentation of awards. In the interest of
safety, pins do not have to be worn during play/games.
9.Only
players named on the entry form may take part in the competition. Exceptional
circumstances may be considered by the NYC if presented, in writing, a minimum
of 7 days prior to the event.
10.
Seven medals only will be awarded in basketball, soccer and Gaelic football;
two will be awarded in badminton to first and second place competitors.
11. The
absolute deadline for the receipt of all-Ireland final entries will be 3 lst
August of the year in which the final takes place.
12. The All-Ireland Final will take place on the
second Saturday of September annually.
13. Any
competitor found in breach of these rules will be disqualified along with the
team of which they are a member.
AGE
CATEGORIES (Sports Competitions)
There
are three age levels in each competition
(a) Over
8 and Under 12 on the 1 st January of the year of the final.
(b) Over
12 and Under 15 on the 1 st January of the year of the final.
(c) Over
15 (No upper age limit) on the 1 st January of the year of the final
SPORTS
GAELIC
FOOTBALL
5 a-side
team entry (plus 2 subs who can be brought on or off as often as the teams
require i.e. similar to the rules normally used in Basketball).
Boys'
teams and Girls' teams.
Duration
10 minutes each half. (Total 20 minutes) In the event of a draw, extra time
will be played, 3 minutes per half. If
a draw results 5 penalties will be taken by different players. If a draw still remains a winner will be
determined by sudden death.
The
normal rules used by the G. A. A. apply with the exceptions of: -
(i) The dress code rule,
(ii) The 45 metre line will be at the discretion
of the referee,
(iii) The Square ball rule will not apply.
SOCCER
5 a-side
team entry (plus 2 subs who can be brought on or off as often as the teams
require i.e. similar to the rules normally used in Basketball). Boys' teams and Girls' teams. Duration 10
minutes each half (Total 20
minutes).
In the event of a draw, extra time will be played, 3 minutes per half. If a
draw results 5 penalties will be taken by different players. If a draw still
remains a winner will be determined by sudden death.
The
normal rules of Soccer apply with the exception of: -
(i) The offside rule
(ii) The soccer dress code rule.
(iii) The penalty area shall be semi circular,
eight-metre radius.
BASKETBALL
Panel of
7 players. Boys' teams and Girls' teams. Duration 10 minutes each half (Total
20 minutes). In the event of a tie
extra time will be played, 3 minutes running clock per half with no
timeouts. If a draw remains 5 baskets
will be taken by different players, followed by sudden death if necessary from
the free shot line.
The
normal rules used in Basketball apply with the exceptions of: -
i) Only one timeout will be allowed per
half.
ii) Each half will be 9 mins running clock
and 1 min stop clock.
iii) To enforce the fouling rule numbers must
be worn on jerseys
BADMINTON
Ladies'
Doubles, Gents' Doubles, Mixed Doubles
All
matches are the best of 3 games of 15.
In event of tie, play will continue to the
first to five points to win set. If a tie occurs at game shuttle then play
continues to first to five points.
