Overview of Training Courses Available
This first page gives a very brief outline of the different courses. These
courses are held in Westmeath (near Moate), and occasional courses are held
in different venues around the countryand at international venues. In-service
courses are also regularly arranged for agencies both in Ireland and abroad.

- Professional Training in Play Therapy and Child Psychotherapy
This is a comprehensive part-time training in Play Therapy and Child Psychotherapy that will equip graduates to work as psychotherapists with children, adolescents and adult carers. Suitable candidates for this course will have relevant training and/or experience in working with children and families. Successful graduates of the 2nd year will be awarded a Diploma in Play Therapy. Graduates of the 3rd year will be qualified as Child Psychotherapists with a specialisation in Play Therapy.

- Professional Training in Creative Psychotherapy
Graduates of the Diploma in Play Therapy and Chid Psychotherapy (above) will be eligible to continue training to work with adults as primary clients using play and creative mediums in addition to the more traditional approaches. This training (1 year) is also on a part time basis and includes supervised practice.
- Introductory Level Courses leading
to Certificate in Therapeutic Playwork
The Certificate in Therapeutic Playwork is a modular training designed for a wide range of practitioners in child-care, education, health and social services including child-care workers, project workers, occupational therapists, creative arts therapists, play therapists, nurses, classroom and special needs assistants, pre-school teachers, day care staff, staff in special needs settings (day care or residential units), anyone wishing to work oversees as a volunteer in developing countries or disaster areas, and for anyone wishing to work creatively with children or vulnerable adults. There are 3 core courses that are repeated regularly:
- Creative Care Course (6 Days)
- Summer School: Creative Play, Drama, and Storytelling (5 Days)
- Therapeutic Work with Children: The Power of Play course (5 Days)
This course will equip participants to work with children and vulnerable adults utilising a broad range of therapeutic skills and media. The course trainers are Dr Sue Jennings and Eileen Prendiville, both are IBECPT Accredited teaching Professors so all training hours will automatically qualify for CPD points with IBECPT (The International Board of Examiners of Certified Child and Play Therapists). The Psychological Society of Ireland alse accredit this training for CPD.
Participants who successfully complete the Creative Care course,
The Summer School, and the Power of Play Intensive 5 day training,
and associated assignments, will be awarded the Certificate in Therapeutic
Playwork. more

- Advanced Training Courses for Qualified
Therapists
Certificate in Child Psychotherapy
This course is designed as a supplementary training for qualified therapists
and psychologists, to work creatively with children and young people.
Traditional psychotherapy training focuses on work with adults. This
specialised course builds on core training to develop the expertise
and skills necessary to work successfully with young clients. more

Diploma in Child Psychotherapy and Play
Therapy
This Modular training is now available to graduates of the Certificate in Child Psychotherapy and includes comprised modules from the range of themed and intensive training course to suit individual participants.
Diploma in Creative Supervision
Creative Supervision includes the use of action methods and creative approaches in the supervision of therapists and other staff involved in clinical work with clients of all ages, utilising a variety of theoretical frameworks, and in a variety of circumstances. These strategies will also prove useful in the mentoring and consultative roles that are part and parcel of many therapists professional life. This course will focus on utilising new and innovative approaches utilising the creative arts, lateral thinking, and playful activities in the supervision process. PSI Approved for CPD.

Summer School 2007: Elemental Play Therapy - Creative Play, Drama and Storytelling
This course, taught by Dr Sue Jennings, provides essential skills for your play and creative practice with children and vulnerable adults. You will experience play, drama, movement, music and dance and a range of non-verbal methods to encourage withdrawn people and contain the most active. We shall include sensory play and work with body self and image, as well as many drama games. You will learn projective methods for all abilities and ages. We shall include collage work and painting, clay and modelling, dramatic play and theatre in order to create an inclusive practice. Therapeutic Work with Children - The Power of
Play
An experiential training suitable for anyone who works with children
to gain a personal understanding of how play therapy and therapeutic
play works, the safety and boundary issues to consider, develop skills
and explore ways to ensure that their work with children, in whatever
setting, has the potential to become therapeutic. An ideal extended
introductory course for those considering training as Therapeutic Playworkers and Play Therapists and for others working with children. more

Certificate in Creative Care
This is an introduction to Creative Play, Drama and Human rights. It is a six day course incorporating three two day modules:

CREATIVE PLAY Introduction to Storytelling and Play Skills

Creative Therapy with Adolescents and Adults
This training, suitable for, qualified and student, psychotherapists,
psychologists, psychiatrists, play therapists, counsellors and others involved in direct therapeutic work with clients, covers
a range of interventions and approaches (including Sandplay, art,

Creative Arts Therapies Workshop
- Communicating with Children

abuse
