Hematite

Hematite is a sedimentary formation that has a reddish brown color and earthy luster changing to a silvery colour when polished. Hematite is an important ore of iron and it's blood red color (in the powdered form) lends itself well in use as a pigment. Hematite gets its name from a greek word meaning blood-like because of the color of its powder. Ancient superstition held that large deposits of hematite formed from battles that were fought and the subsequent blood that flowed into the ground. Crystals of Hematite are considered rare and are sought after by collectors as are fine Kidney Ore specimens. Especially nice specimens come from England, Mexico, Brazil, Australia and the Lake Superior region.

Hemetite is very good for increasing memory, concentration, mental clarity and lateral thinking. It reduces the negative effects of jet lag and anaesthesia and has for centuries been used for cleansing the blood.
It is one of the most grounding of all stones and can counteract anxiety and panic attacks.
Its shiny surface is said to record what coccurs in its vicinity and so should be cleansed regularly.

It opens the Crown Chakra for vitality, energy, will power and personal magnetism.

It brings out the positive
of Virgo and Capricorn
