Classes continued with Paul tonight covering some digital
photography and a composed digital slideshow with 'I'm Having My
Picture Taken' song to go with it - very effective and
appropriate!
A bit of fun photography followed with
some 'macro' shots and a guessing game of 'What is IT?'.
'Money' was the Project work this week - we all seem to be low
on that at the moment - nice to capture it while we
can!
Classes continue next week, will break on
the 28th December and resume on the 4th January. Sport is
the project work due on that night also and while we know it's a
busy time of year everyone is encouraged to try take something
in this category over the coming weeks.
Next week we have a little bit of a
Christmas get together in place of our meeting - just some
finger foods and a wee tipple so leave the car at home!
The exhibition will finish on Saturday
17th December so if anyone hasn't got to it off you go now -
pictures come down at 2.30pm.
7th
The exhibition is now up and running in Conary Community Hall
(between Avoca & Redcross) where there are over 130 photos
by 14 members of the society. The Hall will be open
Monday-Saturday 10.30am-2.30pm and also on Thursdays
7-9pm. We would like to thank Ms. Hilda Fay (Fair City's
'Tracey') for opening the event.
Conary Community Hall:For anyone who needs directions
(going from Avoca to Redcross) - go up through Avoca past the
Church and Avoca Handweavers, keep on the main road for two
miles till you come to a turn on your left (keep an eye out for
it - it can be easily missed!!), take the left turn and continue
to the crossroads, turn right and the hall is a few yards down
on your right. Photographs are for sale if anyone wishes
to purchase for themselves or as a gift for the coming season.
The first of the Tutorial Class was held tonight. Classes will
continue at 8pm in The Bridge next week (7th Dec) contrary
to the notice in this weeks Wicklow People. The opening of
the exhibition will go on at the same time in Conary.
Hilda Fay ('Tracey' from Fair City will open the event).
Many thanks to Hilda for her time. Class members are very
welcome to come out to Conary after the class, lifts can be
arranged for those without transport.
The exhibition will run from Tuesday
6th-17th Dec, opening hours are 10.30am-2pm and also 7-9pm on
Thursdays.
Some members will have an extremely busy
Wednesday next week as apart from the Class and Exhibition they
will be headed to Tinakilly House for the Clarke Oil Calender
launch.
'Low Light' photos were brought in for
this weeks Project Work and there was a great range and varied
use of the topic. 'Money' is the next project, due on the
14th Dec.
23rd
The official opening of this web site took place this evening to
a packed lounge in the Bridge Hotel. Many thanks to Mr.

on the night. We hope you enjoyed your evening.
The exhibition in Conary is pencilled in
for the 6th December.
The Christmas 'Do' dates for
consideration are Friday 16th or Saturday 17th December.
Can members please check their diaries and let me
know which date suits them.
The Tutorial Class kicks off next
Wednesday, 30th at 8pm.
Ever so tentatively Pat asked
'What happens if I press this button??!!?'

Many Congratulations to Eugene Whelan LIPF on being successful
in achieving his Licentiate Distinction in Wexford at the IPF
National Shield last Sunday. Tonight Eugene brought in his
panel for the society to view it and hold discussion about the
experiences everyone had on the day.
Preparation is ongoing for the web launch and we have secured
Mr. Pat Nolan ('Barry' from Fair City) to open our site.
Many thanks Pat.

Preparation continued for the IPF Distinction Panels. The
Society heads off on Sunday to Wexford for the event, Best of
Luck to members putting themselves forward for it.
The newly revised programme for the TBPS Tutorial Class has
been set. The Beginners course will start on Wednesday 30th
November 8pm and will run for nine weeks. This course will take
into consideration Camera Controls such as Aperture, Shutter
Speeds & Focus; the Artistic/Record/Journalistic side to
photography; Composition, Perspective & Perception. It will
also cover digital photography and a Photoshop session. The
course will be one hour a week beginning at 8pm in The Bridge
Hotel and cost includes membership to the Society ( 50 Waged; 30
OAP/Students/Unwaged). The Society’s meeting will commence
just after the class at 9pm and all are welcome. Next Wednesday
(23rd) sees the launch of the TBPS web-site.
2nd
Wildlife Photos in tonight. (as I was away I need to
gather more info on this!)
The first TBPS Tommy Byrne Landscape Competition was held
tonight. With a fantastic show of about 25 photos it was
an extremely difficult task for our judges - The Byrne Family:
Mrs. May Byrne, Mrs. Julie New & Mr. Tom Byrne. We
certainly know how to confuse our judges as when the scores were
finally totted up there were two first places, two second place
and two third places!! After much deliberation a
conclusion was finally presented with 1st place going to Paul
Sheedy, 2nd Stewart Case and 3rd Larissa O'Duffy. Many
thanks to all and congratulations for such great work.
Sincere gratitude to the Byrne Family for sponsoring the
event. I'd like to give personal appreciation to the
Society on behalf of Paul Sheedy and myself for their gift of
the TBPS jackets which they offered, most graciously, in
recognition of some other work we have done. Thank you.
Work is continuing on the Society Panels to go forward to the
National Shield. Anyone who needs their Distinction Panel
Application Forms should have had them completed tonight, if not
get in contact with me ASAP. The closing date for those is
the 1st November. Closing date for the National Shield
(Group Panel) is the 4th November.
Little reminder: Saturday is the closing date for the Clarke
Oil Calendar Competition.
There is talk of a revision of the Tutorial Class. Due
to new members at beginners stage Colum is considering running
the Beginners Class again. This would be a great idea and
gives some members who have already done this course a chance to
do a refresher. Details will be posted soon.
19th
Welcome to our new home! After settling in we thought
we'd take advantage of the TV & Video that was in the
room. Unfortunately.... we couldn't tune in the video
correctly!! (Bunch of technicians that we are!!)
We'll just have to come in at some stage during the week and
sort it out!
12th
Our last night in The Royal Hotel (sob sob)... Many thanks
to Róisín for putting on a surprise wine and food reception
for us. So as everyone turns a new leaf I'll give you all a very
quick reminder that next week we are in THE BRIDGE HOTEL!! Don't
want to find anyone standing outside the Royal wondering why
they can't get in!!
We had a digital slide show last night - the ''Tropical
Digital Images Salon' in Florida which we got from Sean Casey on
Saturday. If anyone wants a lone of these two disc just
ask. Likewise with the books that Sean gave us - they are
there for the borrowing.
8th
Sean Casey visited us today for the Workshop on Panels. A
lot of work was covered and members seem happy with their
results (hopefully all goes well on the day!) The day in
question is November 13th and the venue is Wexford which is very
handy this year for members here. Many thanks to Sean and
best of luck to everyone.
5th
As you already know the Royal Hotel will close its doors in a
week and a half so we've had to look for a new home. Glad
to report we've found it! From the 19th October we will
have our meetings in The Bridge Hotel. Many thanks to The
Hoey Family for accommodating us.
In the meantime in the Royal Hotel this Saturday, 10am Sean
Casey will visit us so I hope everyone has their photos ready
for individual & society panels (€25 for individual
panels).
After Colums Tutorial Class recently everyone should have a
good idea what was required of them in 'Reflection' and the
goods are to be brought in next Wednesday.
The mounts are now under order and we should have them in
about two weeks. It was decided that we would order a
slightly smaller size than originally planned so that they will
fit the standard frames that are widely available.
Jerseys/fleeces etc. with our logo are now ready for order,
just let me know what size you want, or what item you want, and it's as good as
done. Many thanks to Joy and Kriss for that.
