[1888] Based on the 1800 census for Clinton twp., Dutchess co., NY - the 3Griffin households there that contained a son under age 10 were thoseof Adam, Edward and Obadiah Griffin. So one of these 3 must bePeter's father.

In 1790, Obadiah Griffin had 3 sons under age 16. Adam and Edwardwere not on the 1790 census in Clinton, but other Griffin householdswere there, including Joseph Sr. (lived next to Obediah); Stephen;Joseph Jr. & James (next to each other, p.77c); & Jacob (p.83b). In1790 Peter W. Griffin was not due to be born for 5 years, however.

[On 30 Jun 1777, James William Payne appeared before the Committee.He stated that during his captivity on Long Island, he met RichardEverit of Dutchess County. Everit gave him a list containing namesof several persons, whom Everit assured him, were ready to take uparms against the country, whenever the enemy should penetrate intoDutchess County. Payne recalled that the list contained the names of"a Number of the name of Vanderbergh." No doubt, this was Henry andhis family. [1164] Starting in 1956, there was a "Stutzman--Zurbrick" Funeral Home at5615 Broadway in Depew/Lancaster, NY. It is the same red-brickbuilding as the current Zurbrick--Amigone Funeral Home. Earlier, itwas known as the Koopman--Hoffeld House, the home of wealthy Dutchimmigrants. A Mr. John Winters lived in the house until 1956.
