His death certificate gives his mother's name as Adelia Aldridge, notPhebe Aldridge. Whichever the case, she was certainly the daughter ofTurner Aldridge, Quaker missionary and founder of
Gowanda, NY. I am still trying to resolve this problem, as the birthdate for Adelia makes her too young, while Phebe is known to havemarried someone else. (per Steve Newton ).

[694] Steve Newton says Merrill was born July 3,1833.

[1434] An unnamed female baby was born on May 15, 1888 to John and MelissaZurbrick. From the Lancaster cemetery stones, it appears thatFlorence Zurbrick was this baby, since her birthdate matches. Thebirth record of 1888 indicates that Melissa had 5 children previous tothis one, and that all 5 were still living in 1888. Maybe Lucy, whois said to have died in infancy, was not included in the 5.
