Providing a heart in the midst of Bishopstown.
The intrusive Cornfields development failed on all counts to give this concept some meaning. However the "Dunne's Stores" Shopping Centre will be renewed and hopefully an opportunity will emerge. A living over the shop Firgrove Senior Village was an idea worthy of incorporation. please forward any ideas will be forwarded to the planners. I know I can hear some say God help us!

Recreation & Sport.
Public Library in the Bishopstown area.
I am glad to say the project will be a reality at the Wilton Shopping Complex shortly. With others I inserted motions over the years to ensure the construction of the Bishopstown Library.

Church bells in St. Finbarrs again. My proposal ref.04/018 to open the churches for a quite prayer is meeting with approval.

Estates:
Public Lighting, Roads Resurfacing, footpaths and Lane/Alleyway Closures
continue apace since 1999. With notable areas to be completed, the budget  stretched to many estates. I will continue to seek funding for these essential projects.

Continuous representation is made for the following by all ward councillors because of the danger to junior children attending Scoil and Spoiraid Naoimh:

1. A controlled pedestrian crossing be sited at the Melbourn Road access to the school.

2. A 'lollipop lady' be provided for the 1 p.m. collection of the school children. 3. Signage, to warn motorists of the presence of school children be provided on the Curraheen Road'.

 

 
EXTINGUISHMENT OF PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY AT SARSFIELD ROAD


Report of Director of Services/City Engineer dated 2dJanuary, 2003 regarding the Extinguishment of Public Right of Way at Sarsfield Road was considered.

Committee Decision

It was agreed to accept the Director of Services/City Engineer's report and to recommend it to An Chomhairle for approval. It was also agreed on the proposal,,of Comhairleoir S. Martin seconded by Comhairleoir T. O'Driscoll to recommend to An Chomhairle the adoption of the following Resolution:-

"Now Council hereby RESOLVES THAT

The Public Right of Way at the pedestrian underpass, situated under the Sarsfield Road measuring approximately 13 metres long and 3 metres wide, linking Wilton Court and the Wilton Shopping Centre and the approach footpath from Wilton Court to eastern entry to the Pedestrian Underpass measuring approximately 21 metres long, shall be extinguished forthwith.

City Manager to prepare and arrange for immediate execution by Cork City Council the required form of Order."
