Dalkey Walks
Historical points of interest

The Queen's
Formerly know as The Red Crowe. It is now one of oldest and most impressive buildings on Castle Street

The Church of the Assumption
Built 1840. Originally a rectangular building with Gothic windows. It was built on land donated by the Connolly family, who were bakers in Dalkey

Loreto Abbey
Built 1842 on lands once owned by Charles Leslie

St Patrick's Church
Built 1843. There is a school on the site, built by a donation from Charles Leslie in 1870. It became the first non-denominational school in Ireland in 1978.

Tunnel
Now blocked, it was built by Charles Leslie to allow the public access to the Lady Well, which was on his property, without having to cross his land

Charleville
The 'spy tower' in the garden of this house was constructed by a French man escaping military service. He employed someone to sit up here to warn him if a French boat came looking for him.

Bullock Castle
Built by the Cistercian monks to protect the harbour in return for fish from the fishermen. A carved stone head may be seen on the southern corner of the castle. The Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm now own it.

Ulverton road
Exit the church car park onto Castle Street, and go left. As you walk along, you will see a large billboard/advertising hoarding on the opposite side of the road. The next road that goes to the right is Ulverton road. Go up Ulverton road.
Sea views from Ulverton road
After a while it will turn to the left and then slightly to the right again. You should be able to see the sea.
Harbour road
Shortly after this, a road will lead-off from the right; Harbour Road. Go down Harbour road, which turns to the right and leads you past Bullock Harbour.
A tall wall on one side, and Bullock harbour on the other
There should be a tall wall on your right, and the small harbour on your left.
Just keep going straight
If you stay on this footpath, it will eventually lead you all the way back to the village, turning into Convent Road on the way. You will come to one junction where you may be wondering which way to go. You just have to, as I said, stay on the current footpath, continuing on your current road, which goes slightly to the right.
An area often forgotten by walkers
You go through a nice area of Dalkey that is often forgotten about by walkers.
A quiet road off Castle street
When you reach Castle Street again, go right, and this will take you back to the car park. I hope you enjoyed your walk!
