Headstone Inscriptions The work of recording and publishing graveyard headstone inscriptions has been in train since the 1880s. The work done has been on a piecemeal basis throughout Ireland, by virtue of the fact that it is done on a voluntary basis. Fourteen volumes of Memorials of the Dead were published between 1888 and 1931 to cover work done in that period. Seventeen volumes have been published to cover Co. Down and a further number were brought out in the early 1990s by the late Brian Cantwell covering all graveyards in counties Wexford and Wicklow. There are also a number for graveyards in Dublin city and county. A number of websites list Irish graveyard headstone inscriptions, including one done by myself in Co. Meath - Headstone Inscriptions Rathmolyon & Rathcore Graveyards It is my intention to gather together county by county and parish by parish, an overall list of what is available in book form and on the internet - WATCH THIS SPACE |
