Way open for Canonisation of Blessed Charles
16th December 2006

Today, Saturday 16th December, the meeting between Pope Benedict and the Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, scheduled for Wednesday 21st., took place. The Holy Father approved the healing of Mr Dormans as a miracle for the canonization of Blessed Charles.

In the course of the meeting miracles were approved for three other 'Blesseds' and four who had been already declared 'Venerable'. Eight others were declared 'Martyrs' and four declared of 'Heroic Virtue'. See the Vatican account here.

The Next Steps

The next step is to hold a Public Consistory to promulgate the Decree. This may take place in February 2007. A canonization date will be set and the preferred date is during October 2007.

Previous Meetings

On Tuesday the 12th of December 2006 the Cardinals and Bishops of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints had met to consider the healing of Mr. Dormans and whether it was a miracle. In an unanimous decision they gave their opinion that it was a miracle.

Already in November 2005 the Vatican Medical Commission had approved the healing as a miracle. This was followed in February 2006 by the approval of the Theologians of the Congregation for Causes of Saints.
