Paul met up with David Delanee, Jon Leech, and Enda Byrne, in the Meatpackers union of Ireland. These four would make up the group Sarah Jane Smith, named after an actress. The band laboured away during their teenage years to little accord. After finishing school the group took a year off to try and achieve some response.

And so they did, signing a 2 album record deal after 7 months of playing the Dublin gig circuit. They then achieved immediate success, they're eponymous debut album (better known as Chippo, after the monkey character on its cover) reaching no3 in the UK charts. On their third album 'Holiday in Majorca' they would break America, being their first no.1 American record (their 2nd British chart topper) and started playing sell out arena tours and then sell out stadium tours.

Originally, the band had very few instuments, not least talent, and Leech was told to be drummer cos he looked like a drummer. Paul was guitarist - he could(just about) play the guitar. A bassist was needed. There was this cool guy, a long-time friend of the lads, whose voice broke when he was 11, and he just had to play the bass. His name was David Hayes.

But the band was more than just stadium rock. Their 5th, most sinister, and greatest album 'the Crow' consistently finishes in polls as one of the top ten greatest albums of all time. 'Holiday in Majorca' and 'Sarah Jane Smith' also feature regularly. Throughout this time Paul became established as the generation's greatest guitarist and most prolific songwriter. He was also enjoying a functional personnel life, having a son born with his wife of two years,

Baine Niece, in 2012. He's biggest frustration was his role in the media contrived rivalry between himself and Delanee. He did not enjoy being made out as the Mcartney to Delanee's bitter self-loathing Lennon figure that captured the imagination of the disenchanted. Incredibly he admitted being jealous when Delanee was shot and near fatally wounded by a fanatical member of the audience when SJS played St.Louis, sealing his position as tragic member.

In 2019 the band broke up when Jon Leech announced his departure. Two years later Paul released his debut solo album. It was a critical and commercial failure, but his succeeding arena tour was a world-wide sell out, although he did rely on touring alongside Enda with the guarantee of old SJS songs.

Paul then went his own way from the others, contrasting his old bandmates who could not fully embrace family life as he did, although all married and had families. The band would meet up every Christmas as the members took turns in hosting Dinner. Delanee, Leech and Campbell occasionally went on holiday together as well so they remained fairly close.

Enda's died four months before Paul, whose death came in 2074 aged 91. He was the final member to die Jon passing away 12 years before and David 3 years after.
