Stop 9 on Trail 2                                     A mature Blue Cedar

Ceadras ( Irish)

Cedrus atlantica 'Glauca'

Height after 10 years: 10 ft

The Blue Cedar is a beautiful conifer, widely grown as a specimen tree in lawns where the blue-green foliage can be seen to its best advantage. Stake firmly after planting. A poor choice where space is limited - this tree can soon get out of hand. The weeping Cedrus atlantica 'Glauca Pendula' and the yellow-leaved Cedrus atlantica.'Aurea' are much less robust.

Our Blue Cedar is special to us as we planted it in 1999 to mark Peace Day.  It is appropriate that such a beautiful tree should remind us of such an important event.
