The striped Venus shell grows to about 3cm long and lives in sand from the lower shore down to more than 50m. the shells usually have tree broad, brownish rays.
The carpet shells are a bit bigger than the Venus with tough shells about 5cm long. The cross-cut carpet shell has circular ridges which are cut across by radiating ribs. It lives in sand or muddy gravel from mid-tide level downwards.
