Dr James Martin founded the Martin Hospital. He worked as a surgeon in the Mayfield factory which was owned by the Malcolmson family for over 50 years. 

Dr Martin first gave them the use of a house as a nursing home. 70 years later two wings were built on. The are 23 patients, 3 nurse and 16 carers. Lady Waterford  runs the Martin Hospital.
