Noel
Kelly's Visit

Noel
Kelly grew up in Portlaw. He played hurling with Portlaw and Waterford. He is
the sub goalkeeper for Waterford. They won the Munster title and were beaten by
Clare in the All-Ireland Semi-final. Noel Kelly visited out school on the 2nd
of October. Everybody was
talking about Noel before he came in. When he came in we were singing our
National Anthem. He had a smile on his face when he saw us singing. First Mr.
Curran took a picture of us and then everybody held the cup and then he asked a
few questions. Noel asked did anybody go to the Munster final and then he asked
did anybody go to the All-Ireland Semi-final. He showed us the Munster cup. It
was big and there were a few dents on it. There was writing in Irish on it. In
our class we all held it up and pretended we were champions. He gave a bit of
advice "Stay off drink and always train hard." When he left, I felt
that I wanted to go out and play hurling all day. Some day I hope to play for
Waterford just like Noel Kelly.
2002 was a great year for Waterford hurling as the senior captured the Munster title after a very long gap. We were delighted when our past pupil Noel Kelly was selected on the Waterford panel. Noel visited the school with the trophy and visited all the classrooms to the delight of the pupils.
Noel
was the school goalkeeper in 1987 when we won our first
schools title.
