Congratulations to Ms. Doris on the
birth of Katie and also to Mrs. Clancy on the birth of Julie. Mothers and
daughters are all in excellent health.
Congratulations to Mrs. Boylan on the birth of Ellen, a new year baby.
Welcome to our new teachers, Miss O'Loughlin who is teaching sixth class and to Miss Quinlan who is teaching Junior Infants. I'm sure both teachers will be excellent additions to the staff of the school,
Several years ago Mrs. Hally organised the collection of Irish Independent tokens. We managed to reach our target "with a little help from our friends" and acquire televisions and a digital camera. More importantly we participated in the Irish Independent project and have been successful on two occassions. We won the Waterford region in 2001 and again in 2003. This year Mrs Hally was joined by Ms. Doris and Miss Cotter and their classes and their hard work paid off when we were again declared winners in Waterford.
We were delighted to win the prestigious Waterford Co. Council award as tidiest school in east Waterford. The Green School committee attended the presentation in Modeligo on September 30th and received the trophy. Well done to all the boys, girls and staff of the school.
Well done to John Dee who represented Waterford Primary schools against Cork in Semple Stadium before the Munster hurling final. Over 50,000 people attended the match.
U-13 B Hurling
In
the final of the U-13B final played in Walsh Pk. we defeated Scoil Lorcain.
This was another great display from the boys and we held our opponents scoreless
On Tuesday the 27th of May at 3.50 pm, Portlaw
U-13 boys entered Walsh Park grounds with a feeling they were going to win and
win well. The boys faced a tough task against Scoil Lorcain in the U-13 B final.
With 15 mins a side the boys took an early lead in the first half of the game.
The whole game was action packed and exciting. The highlights of this game were
the excellent scores and frees from the forwards and midfielders. Richard
Fitzpatrick was making great saves. Mr. Curran was happy with the result.

Trips
3rd & 4th School Trip
On Tuesday, 17th of June, 3rd and 4th classes went on their school trip to
Trabolgan. First we went to play crazy golf and orientering. Then we went to
groups and had a choice of archery, aeroball, quadbikes, absailing and climbing.
Afterwards, we went to the jungle gym then had our lunch. Later, we went to the
park then swimming. We got chips on the way back in Dungarven and we all had a
great day.

5th & 6th School Tour
On June the 18th, 5th & 6th classes went on their school tour to Dunmore
East Adventure Centre. We did water sports, rock climbing, archery and
orientering. Afterwards we went to Woodstown beach and played around. Then we
went into Waterford for chips and we got home around 7pm and everybody had a
great day.

Goodbye to Ms. Caroline Ho who leaves us after a year as temporary teacher. We
wish her every future success in her career.
Bon
Voyage to Miss Cotter who is taking a career break and leaves for Asia and
Australia on June 30th. We wish her a lovely break and look forward to her
return in 2004. Miss Cotter stunned the pupils by wearing a Cork jersey to
school on the last day.

On
March the 27th Portlaw N.S had an action day. We all split up into
groups and headed off to clean Portlaw. Part
of this action day was to take pictures and do
a project on our action day for City Square. We got cereal boxes crepe paper
and made it into a 3-shape and stuck our pictures on. Sinéad Fitzgerald made
a heading with Portlaw N.S in glitter and put it over
it. It looked amazing. We sent in our project
to the voters and they voted us 2nd . Well done 6th class!
We went in to town on the 14th of June to
collect our prize which was a camera.

Nathan finished his career in the school by been rushed to the doctor as a
result of a sports injury on his very last day. He received 12
stitches!! What a way to go!!!!
Welcome
to Mrs. Valerie Tebay who has been appointed to the position of classroom
assistant. Valerie previously worked in the Mercy pre-school Waterford.
Caring
for Others
At Portlaw N.S, we did a project about caring
for others for the Irish Independent. We wrote lots of poems and stories such as
science time, swimming lessons, bicycle safety and ringos. We tried to show how
we care for other people, animals and people with special needs in our stories.
We all played our part and we hope we win the project.
