ORCHARD

There are a few orchards in Portlaw. One of the owners is named Phillip Little. He makes apple juice. They name it Little Irish Apple Company. It is owned by Oren and Phillip Little. Their orchard is 50 acres long. There are about 60,000 trees growing there roughly. There is another orchard situated in Killowen.

 An orchard needs much attention to be a success. The fruit must be thinned out when small. It also must be sprayed several times a year to keep them healthy. In an acre of ground there might be as many as 2,000 trees. There are many kinds of apples being grown. Some of them are cooking apples and some of them are eating apples. One of the famous apples been grown is golden delicious and Granny Smith.
