Queen Street

There are many streets in Portlaw but the one that I’m going to tell you about is Queen St. It has 26 houses in it, this includes the Cloadagh house which is the largest house of all. There is an upper and lower Queen St, the lower part of Queen St has 12 houses and the upper part has 14.

The post office is in upper Queen St. Then there’s the Martin Hospital which is an old folks home and is situated in the middle of lower Queen St, and then theres Dooleys chipper which is across from the post office in upper Queen St.

Some of the other streets in Portlaw have changed their names over the years but Queen St has been and always will be known as Queen St. This name must have been in honour of the Queen at the time when it was built.
