The razor shell is easily recognized by their shape the same that of an old fashioned razor. The empty shells are extremly common on the shore in many places but the living animal are rarely seen unless they are hunted for. 

The razor cannot close its shell completely the two ends are always open. Razor shells are good to eat and in some parts of the country people fish for them. It’s a fitter feeder and must remain close to the surface as its siphon is very short.
