There are many attractions for guests seeking religious & spiritual sites all within a 60km. radius of Red River Lodge is:

• KNOCK Ireland’s National Marian Shrine (d. 60km)

An apparition took place at Knock on 21st August 1879, which lasted for many hours and was witnessed by the entire village. Since then, Knock has become a place of pilgrimage for thousands of visitors every year. In 1979 the Shrine was officially recognised by the Catholic Church when Pope John Paul II visited the shrine.

• FR. PEYTON CENTRE ATTYMAS, Ballina (d.8 km)

Located in Fr. Peyton’s home-place in Attymas. Fr. Peyton, known as the Rosary Priest, because of his dedication to the Rosary was well known in the USA in the 50’s and 60’s.

• ROSSERK, MOYNE & RATHFRAN ABBEYS (d. 11-16 km)

Along with the ruins of the 14th century Abbey beside the Cathedral in Ballina there are many more ruins along the banks of the Moy Estuary crowned by a 14th century Round Tower in Killala.

• BALLINTUBBER ABBEY (d. 65 km)

Founded in 1216 this unique Abbey has had continuous worship for almost 800 years despite numerous attempts to burn it down. The Abbey, traditionally, has been the start of the pilgrim path to Croagh Patrick another sacred site of pilgrimage.

• AUGUSTINE ABBEY BALLYHAUNIS(d. 65 km)

This beautiful Abbey was built in 14th century and like Ballintubber Abbey above has had continuous worship for 700 years until two years ago when due to falling vocations it was closed by the Augustine Order. The Abbey has been given over to the local community. There is a beautiful display of magnificent religious artefacts including the Dunmore Chalice.
