This was the first 3D project assigned to our class in college. All of the 2D G.A. drawings were done in our first year, and was our main project for first year. Late in our second year we had to start some basic 3d modeling. After some weeks mastering the basics (I was well ahead at the time) , the class began a practical assignment in 3d modeling. It was decided to use the house plans from first year for the classes first 3d model.
I had used 3d models before in projects (See Apartment Complex, 5 bedroom house, Restaurant and Housing Estate galleries) and I was very familiar with the process of converting 2D plans to 3D models. I started playing around with 3D in AutoCAD and 3d Studio Max in first year and completed this 3d model with ease.
The original design of the house plan was taken from a Bungalow Bliss type book, in first year. We then were instructed to provide complete G.A. drawings from this basic plan.
Required Drawings:-Links contain my designs in ACAD R14 (*.dwg) and WHIP!(*.dwf) format
1)Plans of both the Ground Floor and First Floor. (*.dwg)
WHIP! Format Ground Floor & First Floor (*.dwf)
2) Sections - Cross Section showing constructional detail. (*.dwg)
WHIP! Format Section (*.dwf)
3) Complete set of Elevations, typically 4 or more. (*.dwg)
WHIP! Format Elevations
That was the complete project for first year. The project for second year was to use the above drawings to construct a complete 3D Model in AutoCAD, then export it to 3D Studio Max. Building the model in AutoCAD required all of the above drawings for measurement and lots of patience to get the roof right. In 3D studio the model would then have materials applied to it, appropriate lighting would be applied and then the completed model would be rendered.
