Welcome to "Stephen's Portfolio". My name is Stephen Barrett, I live in Dublin, Ireland. This site is a showcase for work I carried out as I studied for my Diploma in Advanced CAD in Colaiste Dhulaigh in Dublin and for a BSc.(Hons) in Architectural Technology in the University of Lincoln in Hull, England.

Most of these projects were assigned in the second year of my Diploma course (except for the 5 bedroom house which was carried over from first year)

Each project is a complete design, all consisting of General Arrangement drawings, with some projects also including detailed 3d renderings aswell. Each project went through a long design stage, involving many small redesigns and alterations to best fit the details of each brief. Each project would undergo a crit by the whole class, and any problem found with a design would have to be rectified for the next session. This insured adherence to the brief and also a allowed everybody to learn from others mistakes.

On each page there will be the original brief, with all the relevant AutoCAD drawings available for download(drawings can be viewed directly in your browser with the WHIP! plugin). If there are any 3D models associated with the given project, they are available for download. They will also be displayed in a gallery, with any other art, associated with each project.

One area of interest in CAD, for me, is 3D computer modeling of architectural projects. This is usually achieved by using a combination of AutoCAD & 3d Studio Max, for modeling, with final retouching done in PhotoShop. I find this area to be the most challenging because it is almost impossible to know everything about it, and it is a constant learning process, which I find very satisfying.

My best work in college has been in the 3D visualisation of my architectural design projects (See Apartment Complex, 5 bedroom house, Restaurant and Housing Estate galleries) and many of these projects are regularly used, by the college, as a showcase for the Dept of Design, in open days and presentations.

*NEW* All AutoCAD Drawings are now available in Whip!(*.DWF) format as well as the normal AutoCAD(*.DWG) format (AutoCAD R14 or later). The Whip!(*.DWF) format allows the viewing of the AutoCAD drawing, in your Internet browser, without the need for AutoCAD and results in a much smaller file size.
