Carol Singers, Christmas 2000.

Beaumont BNS has had a very strong musical tradition
from the very beginning. Both instrumental music and choral
training have always played a very important role in the curriculum.

Instrumental teaching includes the violin and cello by Suzuki method,
choral singing and aural training by Kodaly method, keyboard skills,
elementary electronic workshops incorporating a variety of different midi
applications as well as guitar and tin whistle

Suzuki Pupil

A very broad spectrum of instruments is covered as in the music syllabus
- including the instruments of the orchestra (e.g woodwind, brasswind,
percussion and strings), a wide range of electronic instruments
(and the sounds that they make). As well as a host of other ethnomusicological
instruments from other Countries like India and Java.

The bright future for music in Scoil Barra BNS now lies in the magnificent I.C.T. suite
in the George Martin Technology room where multi track recording, composing,
sequencing and editing will be available to all pupils. Electronic synthesizer sound sources
will be midied to computers, recorded in real time, overdubbed, quantized,
mixed and saved on to floppy disk as well as a wide variety of other
expressive possibilities for computer and keyboard

Suzuki Group in Concert

The use of backing tracks for choral work has been in use in Beaumont
for quite some time now and it is envisaged that a comprehensive range of
midi-files and backing tracks will be downloaded from the internet
in the near future and categorised and saved onto CD-ROM to build up a library
of different choral styles.

Note-processing, manuscript and printing using Capella multimedia
and Notate programs have been used for instrumental performance for some years now.

Music appreciation and listening to music, incorporating mime and
drama, have always been part of the Music Curriculum of Scoil Barra. the school
orchestra usually performs at the Confirmation and First Communion ceremonies in
St.Michaels Church.
