All Ireland Junior, Vets & Under 23's

The Mc ELVANEY MOTORS sponsored All Ireland Junior ,Vets and under 23s cycle races where a huge success last Sunday with 3 of the best races seen in
Ulster for a couple of years.

Under 23's
On the only hot summers day of the year so far Dermot Nally who travelled from Italy to enter the race was a worthwhile winner of the under 23's being in every break of the day and then made his bid for glory with 35 mile remaining.

With the bunch playing cat and mousegames, Nally opened up a gap of 2 minutes 20 sec with 20 mile remaining . At this stage the bunch got its act together and a 4 man break went in persuit one of them being local hero Conor Murphy (Emyvale cc), French based Denis Lynch (VC la Pomme) and 2 other riders on the final lap of a hilly circuit from Monaghan to Ballybay attack after attack by Murphy and Lynch paid off when they got a 25sec gap which left them in a sprint for silver and bronze.

Lynch used all his experince collected by racing in France took silver and
Conor Murphy took bronze to add to the silver he got last year well done Conor.

Junior Event
Two of our members Paul Brady and Micheal Holland took part in this event
but as local riders they where being watched by the bunch as they tried in vain to get away race favourite Paudie O'Brien from Cork made his bid for glory on Castleshane hill took 35 seconds out of Nicholas Roche (son of cycling legend Stephen) who lives in France third was Barry Woods from Killorglin .

Paul and Michael kept slogging away and finished tenth and twelth avery good result for both as they are only first year Juniors (watch this space next year) well done men.

Vets Race
Tony Murphy entered this event as Tony has only re-enterd the racing scene
after a 17 year break until the last 8 mile he was in with a shout of finishing in the top 10 when he got caught behind a crash and had to stop ending his chances of a top 10 finish .he got back on his bike and finished in the main bunch.
Sean Bracken (Usher) was first Sean Mc Elroy (Carrick Cidona) second Kevin O'Leary (St Finbarr's CC ) third.

Credit
All in all every body in the club who helped out can give themselves a big
clap on the back for a job well done. There are to many names to name from
the people who picked a splendid course, designed and distributed entry
forms, swept the roads , taking the entry money, marked the roads, put up
signs, stood on corners for hours, time keeping at the finish ,driving the
cars riding the motorbikes , making the signs, collecting sponsorship, and
many more little jobs that had to be done.
You know who you are, well done.

Club Thanks
The club would like to thank the following that without there help the
championships would not have been as big a success as it was
