[248] Obit. of Iva Meeks:
"The death of Miss Iva Meeks, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Chauncey N.Meeks, occurred Monday evening, May 8th, 1899, of spinal meningitis,aged 12 years. She was taken sick about two weeks ago, and despitethe efforts of the attending physician and the nursing of lovingparents and near friends, the end came peacefully at 11:15pm on theday above mentioned. Iva had a large circle of friends and theannouncement of her death cast a shadow over the community. She was amember of the sixth grade of the Union Free School, the Baptist SundaySchool and the Junior League. The funeral was held from the familyhome Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the faculty and pupils of theUnion School and the members of the Junior League attending in a body.Rev. F.W. Slocum, of the Baptist church, officiated; burial inMontour cemetery. There were many floral offerings from friends andschool mates - loving tributes of the esteem and affection in whichshe was held. Besides her parents she leaves a sister and twobrothers who have the entire sympathy of all in their sadbereavement."
