Temple Bar 06th February, 2000 The Crucifixion Of The Messiah January 5th was a sad day in the history of the Messiah Operation. Because it died. HALLEULIA! This was the last stand of pretentious failed rock, satis-soaked, con-fusion. This is the last of dedications .The last of posing to people-cum-drink. The last of would be covers. This sad figure hangs from a cross. For our sins. Tonight kicked off with a possible survivor- Enter Sandman. It has yet to be seen if Enda can match the might of this number. Next was Before Anastasia, a sure survivor. Then the covers floodgates opened. From the treadmill rolled Under The Bridge, Kung Fu, Every Me And Every You, Nancy Boy. None can be classed as a bad song and none were performed to a poor standard. But the lack of focus in all numbers was hard to ignore. Ash and Metallica in one set? In all due fairness the crowd were 'entertained'. Unfortunately new and now abandoned( is it ?) song Emma Jemine was not performed .But the groups potentially greatest moment Sympathy was played to good applause. Musically the band showed no incredible great musical development in the last month, although Paul did receive better results from his Roland/Marshall guitar set-up. Until his Marshall broke down. Again. David Delanee had little luck either and appeared cumbersome with a Vantage Precision Bass across his waist .Musically the switch did not pay off either with his favoured bottom end toned sound displaced by the tendency of the Vantage to produce a click when struck. Oh well. Once again Paul, David, and Jon's stated that this was the end of their crimes against audioculture. Enda refused to comment. Or he wasn't there. |
