Gaelic Football Gaelic Football is an Irish sport, Gaelic meaning (Irish). Portlaw National School have participated in this sport since 1986. The school is quite small and has been very successful in the past and hope to be so in the future. We were successful in 1987/88 winning the B section. We were also successful in 1990/91 and 1993 winning the B section once again. The school is the only rural school to be victorious in the A section in 1996/97. This was a marvelous achievement. I was a member of that team and we worked really hard to reach the final. We had to play St. Declans, who are situated in Waterford City, in the final. We played them earlier in the tournament but were defeated. The final was played in Walsh Park the main pitch in the City. Everyone on the pitch put in an extremely great effort to achieve glory and we were really delighted with ourselves. In the end we came out victorious and were really proud of ourselves, and after the match we went to McDonalds to celebrate our great win. By Gary Nugent See our photo in the Roll of Honour
