National Lead Climbing Competition

 

Peter Owens reveals all!

On the weekend of the 7th to the 8th of October, the first national lead

climbing competition will be held in conjunction with the Mars Sports show.

There will be categories for male, female and junior (12 to 16 yrs old)

climbers. 

 

The climbing will be of international standard and a qualified

route setter who will be coming over from the UK will set the routes. There

will be superb cash and gear prizes sponsored by major gear manufactures.

There will be TV coverage by TV3, Internet broadcasts by WildIreland.ie,

promotional radio slots on FM104 and newspaper coverage by the Irish Times.

There is also the opportunity to be involved in the event even if you aren't

into crimping those holds, we require volunteers with varying skills, from

helping build the 13m wall (in 2 days!!) to belayers, & Judges. We will

also be taking applications for forerunners and route setters.

The event is being co-coordinated by the Dublin Climbing Centre. Entries will have to be

limited so to ensure a place, apply early (Completed application forms to be

in no later than the 18th of September).

Entry into the competition is £10

for adults and £5 for juniors. All climbers and volunteers will have a free

pass into the Mars Sports Show.
