Two
High Profile Lectures Announced...
Boardman Tasker Award winner Paul Pritchard returns.
As
anyone who seen his slideshow last time will tell you, his approach to
these
things is a breath of fresh air. Still 'merry' from just winning his
award for Deep
Play, he enthralled us with passages from the book and
amazing slides of, well,
stuff. Images of flowers...and rocks on
stony beaches floated by as he recalled
his near fatal drowning in
Gogarth.
Don't
miss him.

Declan
O'Keefe (our man on the inside of the MCI) informs me:
"We
have managed to land Neil Bentley, gritmeister for one night
only
in Dublin (We tried to get him to do a tour but he wasn't available).
February
14th - go on, break someone's heart.
We
are making a brave effort to extend the scope of the MCI Lecture Series
with
climbers of this quality. It is really important that they be well
supported
or we will have to row back to safer shows. Turn up in your
numbers
and make us glad we organised it..."
Both
shows brought to you by the Moutaineering Council of Ireland
This
just in!
A LIFE IN CLIMBING: EMMET GOULDING
On
Wednesday 15th November in Dublin, Emmet Goulding will present an
illustrated
lecture entitled:
A
LIFE IN CLIMBING
Emmet
Goulding has been a seminal figure in Irish Mountaineering for forty
years.
He was involved in the development of many Irish Crags and his
Alpine
career included such notable achievements as the first Irish ascent
of
the Bonatti Pillar on the Dru.
Emmet's
talk will focus on his rock-climbing career from Glendalough to the
Burren
via Donegal and Fair Head. He will also deal with his varied Alpine
Career
including:
-
The first Irish ascent (and the 26th ever) of the Bonatti Pillar on the
Dru.
-
Sentinel Rouge on the Brenva Face of Mont Blanc
-
The Ryan Lochmatter Route on the Plan
-
The North Face of the Dru
-
The Cordier Pillar
Emmet
doesn't do many slide-shows and it took quite a bit of coaxing to get
him
to do this talk. It should be quite an experience.
Make
sure you don't miss it.
The
lecture will be held in the Aylesbury Suite of the Doyle Tara Hotel,
Merrion
Road, Dublin 4 at 8pm. The hotel boasts ample car parking and a
full
bar. It is 400 metres from Booterstown DART Station and is served by
buses
5, 7, 8, 18, 45 and 114.
Admission
is £5 with a concessionary price of £3 for Students, Unwaged, OAP.
This
talk is arranged by the Mountaineering Council of Ireland in
association
with The Great Outdoors as part of our Winter series of
lectures.
