During the
beginning of May a rather small flurry of new route activity hit
Muckros Head
caused by Belfast climbers Ali Moles and Paul McArthur. Driving
over for the day
Ali, Paul with another climber Ali Wilson, quickly sussed
out possible few
new lines along the length of the crag. Ali Moles climbed
two new routes at
the far end, one an excellent E3 which traverses out and
over a juggy
overhang in true Muckros style and the other route which climbs
a more committing
line farther right, again. Graded E4, this climb also
produces quite a
hard technical crux just off the ground. The routes are
called The Borg
ate my Mars Bar (E3 5c) and The Guardian Crustacean Spits
Fire (E4 6a)
respectively. Paul McArthur climbed a new route amidst the
already
established lines at the near end. Viva Las Vegas climbs the roof
right of Elvis,
around the blunt arete and finishes up the cornflake wall
just left of the
Cabbage arete. Graded E3 6a, it provides a slightly harder,
but more exciting
companion to Elvis. A couple of other new lines have also
been spotted by
the Belfast lads, but they are not telling us just yet -
spoil sports!
