New
E6 hits Dalkey
Ronan
Browner, enfant terrible of the Irish climbing 'scene', was author of the most significant new route (only new route?) in Dalkey quarry this year. The left hand arete of Central Buttress was a known last great line, and several people had looked at it over the years, most being put off by it's holdless appearance from the ground.
Closer inspection on a top rope revealed it was hard, but definitley doable. Some hard technical stemming with no gear over a nasty landing leads to good holds and a good wire. The crux starts from here ending in a hard throw for a good hold from a poor gaston.
Ronan now has the two hardest routes on Central Buttress (and probably the quarry) to his credit with this and Spandex (E6) to the right. This new route, called
Slapstick, goes at a hard E6 6b and was toproped proir to ascent.
