Legends tone up for the Battle of Bray!

THE COUNTDOWN is on for what is already being described as 'the battle of Bray'. There may be three World Cup matches on Sunday June 20th when Slovakia/Paraguay, Italy/New Zealand and Brazil/Ivory Coast all meet that day in South Africa.
But back in North Wicklow on Father's Day, all eyes will be on the Carlisle Grounds.
In a unique venture in order to raise much needed funds for the progress in developing the club, Wolfe Tone and District Youth Club have organised charitable match against Bray Wanderers legends.
Founded back in 1973, the club currently boast 13 teams between Under 8 to Under 14 level playing in the Heatons/Sportsworld WDSL as well as a Saturday morning Academy catering for five to eight year-old's. They also have girls Academy which caters five to 11-years-old. As a charitable organisation, Wolfe Tone Youth Club relies on sponsorship and support from local business and individuals.
The club has plans to take over the lease of the running the Temple Sportsfield from Bray Town Council.
The match is one of the ways to raise to the profile of the club, and bring in much needed funds.
"We are asking for assistance in selling advertising space in the match programme/book, getting spot prizes, getting sponsorship for the match, getting much needed sporting memorabilia, and selling lines on he sponsorship card," said Wayne Monahan who is one of the organisers of the event.
"We need to look at the bigger picture and notice that our kids and many more will truly benefit from the club's progress in the development of Wolfe Tone Youth Club."
Over the past 15 years, the 'Blue's have produced more players through their ranks to go on and play for Wicklow's League of Ireland club that any other schoolboy nursery in the Garden County.
Perhaps the most famous of all is Wanderers record goal-scorer Kieran 'Tarzan' O'Brien whose own son Jake now plays for Wolfe Tone at Under 10 level. Current players Robbie Doyle and Shane O'Neill also lined out for the cub. Others to play for both clubs include the Brien brothers Shay and Darren, Stephen Horan, Philip 'Pip' Keogh, Darren Lacey and Dean Fletcher. Another pair to line out for two are Danny O'Connor and Justin Dutton.
The Green and White's panel is expected to include the likes manager Eddie Gormley, his Assistant Keith Long as well as other greats such as Anthony 'Bo' McKeever, Maurice Farrell, Jody Lynch, Stephen Fox, Mick Doohan and Martin Nugent. The Seagulls squad already experience in such a fixture. In October 2009, they drew with their Liverpool counterparts 2-2 in front of 3,000 spectators with 1990 FAI Cup hat-trick hero John Ryan on the mark for Bray as well as a 25-yard screamer from Richie Parsons. Tony Cousins and Phil Babb drew the Red's level.
Wolfe Tone are currently looking for sponsorship for the event, the match day programme.
