Small sided games .Super 7's is 7-a-side soccer ( 20 minutes each half ) played at U8 age level, the squad consists of 10 players of which 3 substitutes are changed at half time. The pitch is half the size of a normal pitch and the goalposts are smaller than normal. The idea behind the game is that the children improve their skills by getting more touches of the ball during the game (i.e. less numbers and smaller pitch). The substitutes at half time ensures that each child in the squad gets at least half a game during the 40 minute period. At u8's a size 3 ball is used, switching to size 4 at u9's. In season 2007-08, a change was introduced at u9 and u10 age levels. The game switched to 9-a-side from a squad of 12, played on the same pitch as Super-7's. Wolfe Tone have, presently, nine teams playing in the U8's- U10's age groups of the Wicklow Schoolboys/ girls League which runs from September to June each year. Three play at U8 level, four at U9 and two at U10 level. The teams play at various divisional levels in the League and hopefully each team gets to play at the ability level that suits them. Re-grading is used in the League to try to achieve this. They all play their home games in the Temple sportsfield on Saturday or Sunday mornings and train various nights in the Clubhouse. Managers who look after these teams have FAI coaching qualifications and spend a lot of time at training and matches teaching the children how to play soccer. For further information contact any of the managers through the Clubhouse at 01- 286 8295. Playing time. Footballs. Rules 7 a side game. Rules 9 a side game. |
