What is the Junior Cert. Schools Programme

The Junior Certificate Schools Programme is a national programme sponsored by the Department of Education and Science and the National Council of Curriculum and Assessment.

  • This programme gives every child the chance to do well.

  • It is the Junior Certificate programme...with a PLUS.

  • All the students are entered for the Junior Certificate examination.

  • Plus:

    • They get a profile that lists their skills and explains all the things they are good at.

    • They get a reference form the school.

What happens in School:

The school puts together a Junior Certificate Programme that will keep your child interested.

It is designed to bring out the best in your child all the way through school and in the Junior Certificate examination.

The Programme is tailored to suit the students.

They work on short term goals so they can see they are making progress.

They build up their skills gradually.

Their success is rewarded at each stage.

The Profile

Each student involved in the Programme gets an individual profile.

The profile highlights all the great things that you child can do.

The student can get credit for all classwork, home work and class tests.

The profile lists and describes the skills and knowledge each student has learned. It will be different for each student.

Help your child get the Junior Certificate

You can get involved in your child's Junior Certificate.

You can pass on your skills to your child and help them get credit for those skills.

An important part of the Programme is the support it gives to pupils who need help to stay in school.

You can help by working with the school in encouraging good attendance, punctuality and homework and praising you child as he/she makes progress.

The Junior Certificate School Programme is a national programme sponsored by the Department of Education and Science and the NCCA.

The Junior certificate School Programme Support Service is funded by the In-Career Development Unit, department of Education and Science and the European Social fund.
