What is Leaving Certificate Applied
  • A Two Year Practical Programme
  • Students apply the learning they gain to practical educational tasks at school, in the work place and in the wider community.
  • A Set Course – all students do the same subjects
  • 1 day work experience per week.
  • Credits – not a points system
  • Students gain credits over the course of the two years
  • Final exam accounts for one third of total marks

 

Job Possibilites for Students who do Leaving Certificate Applied

 

  • Apprenticeships with FÁS, ESB, CIE
  • Cert Training Courses
  • Clerical Officer positions with several Government Departments including Dept. of Environment and Dept. of Health
  • Agricultural Colleges
  • Garda Síochana
  • Banks – currently Bank of Ireland and Ulster Bank(also AIB through PLC in Business Studies)
  • PLC Courses
  • Further Education

How to Enter the Course

After Easter in third year students are given information about Leaving Certficate Applied and Application form are filled in.  An information night for parents is held in conjunction with the Senior Options Information Night.  An interview follows.
